Unity: The posture for power and blessing

Scripture: Psalm 133 A Song of Ascents. Of David.
Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in
unity!  It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the
beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes!
It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

Observation:  We all love this Psalm don't we?  I know I do.  I've quoted it often in times of worship or in gatherings of believers.  I've always quoted Psalm 133:1, but I've never really bothered to dig more deeply into the similes given to describe what it is like later in the this short psalm.  And wow!  I'm so glad I did.
It gives such a richness to the "goodness and pleasantness" that God's word ascribes to unity among His people.
If you recall, Aaron was the first High Priest that accompanied Moses (and spoke for him to Pharoah) through the 40 years of wandering through the wilderness.  The oil was poured upon the priests representing the power of the Spirit and the anointing of God honoring the priests calling to represent Him before His people.  Not just a few drops, but gushing fragrant oil running down even his robes!
Now on to Mt Hermon.. Mt Hermon is one of the highest points in the far north region of Israel and as such retains the dew and rainfall upon it's peaks high above the land.  It stands in stark contrast to the arid lands below and it's melting caps are a major source of the Jordan river which flows through the dryer land bringing life to it.

Application:  Is not that symbolism incredible?!  What is unity like?  Like the fragrant anointing of the high priests that stand before God in His presence and blessing the people.  Like the dew of Mt Hermon from which literally rivers of water flow down from and give life to the land below.  Unity commands a blessing.  When followers of Christ come together in unity it is powerful!  Power and blessing flow from on high like rivers of living water and descend upon those in alignment to His purposes.  Unity is attractive to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit (we see this all throughout scripture don't we?) And now in the church age we look to Christ as our head, of whom is our fountain of living water, our River that sends forth His blessings as we come together in His name.
I want the church to move in power, in blessing, with Kingdom authority..but it can only happen when we're unified! Team, let's commit to fight for unity, to be unoffendable and forgiving at all times so that we can keep our roots planted by the banks that we may never wither and in all we do in investing into God's vision for His people in Bacolod, prosper, prosper, prosper! (Psalm 1 3-4)  Amen?

Prayer: Lord we are amazed that you would choose us to be alive in such a time as this.  We see that You are returning soon and we long to hasten that day by bringing Your love to all the world.  Lord, as Your word says, go before us in power and blessing as we “strive to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3) Your word also states that we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;  (1 Peter 2:9)..

May Your lost sons and daughters be born again into Your marvelous light as we witness in Your strength and in unity with one another, amen.

  1. We are doing major things for the Kingdom and the enemy is doing everything in his power to divide us! We have to be strong and see his schemes! Thank you Adam for this!
